To support Megan Healy for her upcoming
Cross Country Bike Trek

Megan Healy, the daughter of my colleague Sandy Healy will begin a Cross Country Bicycle Trek of 3,700 miles this summer with “Bike and Build” a non-profit organization who’s goal is to raise awareness and money for Affordable Housing.  And they do it with 8 Cross Country Bicycle Trips every year.

Megan, will start her trek in North Carolina and ride with other team members traveling 3,700 miles to San Diego, with only small duffel bag of essentials, a sleeping bag, and her new Bicycle. As a team leader, Megan is helping to plan the trip, organizing where the group will stay, and find donations for food from restaurants and grocery stores along the way.

Last year, Megan rode the route from Providence to San Francisco. Stopping at various affordable housing work sites and worked for an entire day. She had the opportunity to do various jobs, such as building roofs, painting, and even landscaping. She considered this fun because she got to learn something new.

Each rider is required to raise $4,000 as well as sign a contract to complete 500 miles of training on a bicycle and 10 hours of volunteering at a local affordable housing group, such as Habitat for Humanity. And with about 30 participants in each of the eight cross-country routes, each group raises about $150,000 per year.

If you are unable to make it to the fund raiser party, you can make a donation by clicking on Megan

It's a worthwhile cause, and as part of Weichert Realtors Points East Yankee Traders' "Giving Back" program is proud to be a sponsor of this fund raising event along with Desi and the staff at The 401 Tavern in Hampton, NH.
