But you may be surprised to know that over the Memorial bridge (which is located right downtown Portsmouth), is Kittery, Maine. And ever since the Memorial Bridge was rebuilt in 2013 there has been an increase in the number of places to eat and "some" of these rival the Portsmouth scene. So if you're looking for something to eat and Portsmouth is either to busy or you just want a change of scenery, take a ride over the bridge into Kittery.

The distance from the Memorial Bridge to the farthest establishment in town (like When Pigs Fly or Chauncey Creek Lobster is 4 miles from the bridge So it's only a few minutes by car. And for those on foot you can walk or bike to at least 24 of these fairly quickly.
